Spoiling Your Senses

If you wish to fully experience Istria, there is an incredible array of coastal restaurants and taverns awaiting you with a wide range of fish specialties accompanied by home-made wine. In the interior, on the other hand, the cuisine is famous for home-made prosciutto, olives, sheep cheese, honey, fig brandy and truffles, a top-class specialty.

The gastronomy has been colored by Istria’s stormy past, which is why it is so rich and concrete. Some of its best known dishes are delicious sausages and sauerkraut, the famous „ombolo”, gnocchi with rabbit, the „fuži” pasta with venison and macaroni with sausage sauce. And let’s not forget, of course, about the delicious Istrian prosciutto and sheep cheese, both dry-cured in Alpine as well as in Mediterranean air and blessed by the Trieste Gulf bora wind. Has that whetted your appetite already? Now add to this all sorts of minestrone, the „jota” stew and omelets. And for dessert „pinca”, „fritula” or „kroštula”. Any gourmet, demanding as he may be, is surely overwhelmed with all these heavenly tastes and smells. We recommend you complete your meal white a glass of biska, of course.
